Statement of Intent - Supporting
Statement for Panel |
|
The images are of
Lanzarote and the work of local artist Cesar Manrique
Nature was the fundamental reference for his work and existence. He
maintained a profound commitment to the defence of the natural environment
of the island and the protection of the natural beauty of Lanzarote until
his death in 1992. His work is continued by the Manrique Foundation
I share his passion for the island so it was natural to create a panel of
images which represent the influences of the island on the artist
• 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 feature the landscape and
natural surroundings
• 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13 show the work of Cesar
Manrique and highlight his interpretation of natural colour, shape and
texture
• 11 and 12
illustrate the relationship between natural wood, traditional colours and
the importance of the sea
• 14 and 15
indicate the importance of religion in the lives of the local people
